Looking through the pictures in the Cameroon Photo Press Archive, one photograph struck me: NEG_2179: 14 June 1970 – Cross Country Racing Victoria. The latter is all the information that was given. The picture itself however tells much more than merely the location and date of the cross-country race. It shows nothing spectacular, but rather tells a story. This story is told, as in any image, through a specific visual language.

In 'La Mallette' I have come to a determination of this visual language and I have used these sets of rhetorical visual elements to decompose the storylines of image NEG_2179: 14 June 1970 – Cross Country Racing Victoria.
